Did not get into Berkeley. Big surprise.
Maybe this is the Flying Spaghetti Monster's way of telling me I should open a vegan bakery instead.
Still feel shitty.
The thing is, I'm not even that upset that I didn't get in. Honestly the more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to do it. I don't have passion or drive to educate, I just like science. That's not what a good teacher is. It was more of a backup plan. It was a way to put off thinking about what I really want to do for a few more years.
So, I guess it's good that I didn't get in?
Still feel shitty.
All of my friends, down here and in Portland, are doing such amazing wonderful things with their lives and are just the best, smartest, most creative and brilliant and passionate people, and it drives me insane with jealousy, because I feel I have nothing to offer them.

There are a bajillion things you can do with your life, Meg. Baking, activism, something you haven't yet discovered - plus, if you do find yourself wanting to teach (and I think you'd be great at it), there are other programs afoot.
Short version: You're phenomenal no matter what Cal says.
Well that is lame, but like you said, life could be directing you someplace better. I think it is. :)
Please don't feel like you have to do some amazing thing and have your whole life sorted out by the time you're 25 -that's what your midlife crisis is for! :P
I kid. But seriously, don't make it so hard on yourself - just do what you enjoy doing with those you enjoy doing it with. :)
Sorry to hear about the news, but I'm sure you'll figure out your direction eventually.
For what it's worth, the one thing I took out of college the most was that I didn't want to be a biologist for a living, so it probably is actually a good thing that you stopped now before getting years into a career that you don't really even care for.
Also, I don't know if it was entirely sarcasm or not, but I always get a kick out of seeing your vegan food pics and I'm not even into the food, so maybe there's something to your bakery idea after all... :)
