Save the sealions

http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2008/01/371145.shtml?discuss

"The NOAA national marine fisheries service is about to decide whether to begin killing sea lions on the Columbia river. Some say the decision has already been made, and they are simply going through the motions (ala the FCC) of pretending we have a say in the matter. Perhaps. But this is the last chance to make any public comment about whether or not they should be allowed to kill sea lions on the Columbia river. Please take the moment or two that it will take, and make your voice heard. Tell them not to kill the sea lions."

Here's what I wrote:

"Sea lions have always been in the Columbia river, and so have salmon. Hmm...methinks it is not the sea lions fault, but rather overfishing, too much damming, and pollution. Maybe instead of killing innocent animals who have as much of a right to be there as the salmon (and us), we should look at our OWN environmental practices and think about changing our policies of over-commercialization and overfishing. Please remember that both killing sea lions AND fishing destroys animal lives and local ecosystems. Killing animals because of our own human negligence and selfishness would be a senseless and reprehensible tragedy.

Please just take a moment to really think about what I've said. No Oregonian would want this to happen."

Come on, Oregonians! Fire up those emails and at least let them know that we don't want this!
